Announcements for March 6, 2012

Announcements for week of March 6, 2012

“A song of ascents. I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me.” Psalm 120:1 NIV

Spring Break

As much as we love our weekly meetings, we do take breaks now and again. We follow the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District schedule so when they have off, so do we. We will not meet during the weeks of March 20th and 27th. Bible Studies will resume on April 3rd.

Spirit Day

March 13th is our Spirit Day for the month of March. The theme is St. Patrick’s Day/ Green. The person with the most “spirit” will be awarded a great prize and the class with the most spirit will win head-of-the-line privileges for food!

March Prayer Theme

This month let’s pray for our children! We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD, about his power and his mighty wonders, so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Psalm 78:4, 6-7 NLT

FLAME Night

FLAME is an event that stands for Fellowship, Laughter, and Motivating Everyone. Do you want to meet with everyone at a local restaurant? Are you good at doing something and would like to teach others how to do it? Do you want to get together to play games for a few hours or watch a movie or go on a hike? Anyone can lead a FLAME and we try to have one each month.

Let us know what you are interested in doing, when and where, and we’ll announce it to the group.

New Babies

Congratulations Emily K., Savannah Ruth has arrived!  More details to come!

Amanda B., Gabrielle arrived around 3:25 pm on February weighing 6lbs, 7oz. The Bundt family will be at the hospital for the remainder of the month so please continue to lift this family in prayer. The basket will be available for a couple more weeks if you would like to bless her with a gift. A card is also available for loving messages.  A meal schedule has been made at http://www.takethemameal.com.  If you would like to sign up, please e-mail ord@pwoc.org for the password.

January Book Club

The next book club meeting is on January 27th at Corrie’s house at 1900. The book they will be discussing is Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller (see description below). For more information contact Bethany or e-mail org@pwoc.org.

Blue like Jazz by Donald Miller (non-fiction, autobiography, anecdotes about a 20-something’s journey to Christ)

“I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn’t resolve. . . . I used to not like God because God didn’t resolve. But that was before any of this happened.” In Donald Miller’s early years, he was vaguely familiar with a distant God. But when he came to know Jesus Christ, he pursued the Christian life with great zeal. Within a few years he had a successful ministry that ultimately left him feeling empty, burned out, and, once again, far away from God. In this intimate, soul-searching account, Miller describes his remarkable journey back to a culturally relevant, infinitely loving God.
